Drove up this past Friday after work, thank goodness for getting off at 2PM!
Im so thankful that i missed the worst of the worst traffic-wise. There were enough pockets of congestion, 3 day weekend coupled with Friday L.A. traffic, no bueno. I cant imagine what it would have been like after 5 or god forbid 6! YUCK!
It’s a beautiful drive up the coast, very scenic.
I was able to find a GREAT rate at the Best Western, this month is crazy for us as far as traveling and there was no need to break the bank for a few hours. The Best Western was nice, the grounds felt more like an apt. complex than a motel. The rooms are very standard, but clean, and the service was friendly. The selling point for me, it was about 2 miles from the start line, woohoo!
Here are a couple of pics from my carbo load pasta din-din.
The gelato was good, the chocolate was wasted on us, way too rich, but we KILLED the vanilla bean, num!
Race morning, when you have your babe bring your request for a throw away shirt, it just so happens to be your FAV old shirt that you haven’t had the heart to part with, even after all of these years….I couldn’t NOT take a parting shot, and such an epic t-shirt pic!!!!! I have such great memories with this thermal, riding on the back of a harley down Sunset Blvd on an awesome summer night! ROCK ON Fender shirt and RIP.
And done! They were handing out flags the last mile or so for veterans days, super cool to sport one of these bad boys, and to see all of the soldiers cheering on the runners as they came into the finish! It was kind of a hilly course, specially since I haven’t been hill training yet. Somehow I managed a PR!!??! Mind you I’m still slow, but I’ll take it! 🙂
And here are a few more pics of brekky, random street art (SB has a huge art presence), and the beautiful ride home! I’ve always heard that Santa Barbara makes a great weekend getaway, and I totally agree, wish we could have hung out longer.
