Monday, Make It Happen

The weekend started off great. Friday I woke up early got in a workout, ate a yummy paleo breakfast, threw dinner in the crock pot, grabbed the pup and headed up the coast to Zuma Beach to pick up my bib for the Malibu Half Marathon. It was a gorgeous day in the Bu, and traffic was Friday morning light. Bib pick up was a breeze. I couldn’t have asked for any more. Except to actually be pain free and able to run Sunday. Didn’t happen. It’s not a pitty party so I won’t go on.

Check out the beautiful coastal course I missed. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

At least I had the comfort of Sunday morning cuddles with this lil monkey.

And my favorite breakfast. No it’s not the dirty fat ladden post half marathon feast I had imagined, but it was delicious just the same, and GUILT FREE! Organic, GMO free, vegetarian…(bubbles don’t count)

I’m happy to report that last week’s plan was a success!

  • I created 8 new pieces!
  • Blogged 4 days and I think I only missed one photo a day prompt, but there was still a blog post that day!
  • Definitely marketed/promoted
  • Worked out the 3 days I wanted to, not sure about my -2 lb goal, don’t weigh myself on Mondays

Now for this week…Itโ€™s Monday, and hereโ€™s the Make It Happen Plan:

  • Get the rest of the items made last week online
  • Create new items, different category
  • Blog my scheduled 3 days a week
  • Market and promote.
  • Gym 3 days / -2 lbs

Hope you guys had a good weekend, and cheers to a successful week!

Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon Pasadena 2013

Though I was terrified of running this race (hadn’t run anything other than the color run 5K in a month), I had such a good time at the Rock n’ Roll Pasadena Half Marathon this past Sunday!!! The race started on time, had great course support, wonderful volunteers, and the people of the city of Pasadena were awesome! A BIG SPECIAL THANK YOU SHOUT OUT to the lady in the middle of the street with gummy bears, and the cheerleaders passing out the Skittles!! You guys gave me life! Here are the pics! Forgot to record video this time :/ oppsies!

Here I am in corral 9…

A BUNCH OF HILLS IN BETWEEN =\

I was doing pretty good until mile 10, the morning started to warm up a bit, the hills, and no training took their toll, it was pretty much a walk the last 5K. I was super bummed because the entire race until mile 10 I was ahead of the 2:45 pacer, which is good for me! But I lost my steam at the end. I still ended up beating my time at the R n’ R LA in Oct., kinda proud of that!

With only 2 miles to go, I was excited to see this guy! He usually comes earlier in the race.

I had been looking forward to my post race jamba juice all week, it was my lifeline after the Oct. race! I also decided to go for the TruMoo, as I had an event to attend later. Normally won’t drink it because I’m slightly lactose intolerant, but it was nummy, wish they had chocolate almond milk! It really hit the spot! ๐Ÿ™‚

I also grabbed two packs of mini pretzels as well as a naner. Even though I carry saltstick tabs, I can never seem to get enough sodium, so chips or pretzels at the finish help me so much! They also ease my tummy after a long run. I Also had a water and Gatorade, I was so loaded down with goodies, I could barely make it to my car, it was fantastic!

Along with a Cool medal and Brooks tech tee as usual, I picked up a commemorative pint glass at the expo! So cute, how have I not seen these before

Check out this baby! Goes great with my rock n’ roll nails, eh?! ;p

Later that night we saw one of our all time favorite bands at the Wiltern, SOUNDGARDEN! And they were AWESOME as usual!

Such a great show, and perfect ending to Valentine’s weekend!

Santa Barbara Intl. Marathon Half

Drove up this past Friday after work, thank goodness for getting off at 2PM!
Im so thankful that i missed the worst of the worst traffic-wise. There were enough pockets of congestion, 3 day weekend coupled with Friday L.A. traffic, no bueno. I cant imagine what it would have been like after 5 or god forbid 6! YUCK!

It’s a beautiful drive up the coast, very scenic.

I was able to find a GREAT rate at the Best Western, this month is crazy for us as far as traveling and there was no need to break the bank for a few hours. The Best Western was nice, the grounds felt more like an apt. complex than a motel. The rooms are very standard, but clean, and the service was friendly. The selling point for me, it was about 2 miles from the start line, woohoo!

Here are a couple of pics from my carbo load pasta din-din.

The gelato was good, the chocolate was wasted on us, way too rich, but we KILLED the vanilla bean, num!

Race morning, when you have your babe bring your request for a throw away shirt, it just so happens to be your FAV old shirt that you haven’t had the heart to part with, even after all of these years….I couldn’t NOT take a parting shot, and such an epic t-shirt pic!!!!! I have such great memories with this thermal, riding on the back of a harley down Sunset Blvd on an awesome summer night! ROCK ON Fender shirt and RIP.

The start….

image

And done! They were handing out flags the last mile or so for veterans days, super cool to sport one of these bad boys, and to see all of the soldiers cheering on the runners as they came into the finish! It was kind of a hilly course, specially since I haven’t been hill training yet. Somehow I managed a PR!!??! Mind you I’m still slow, but I’ll take it! ๐Ÿ™‚

And here are a few more pics of brekky, random street art (SB has a huge art presence), and the beautiful ride home! I’ve always heard that Santa Barbara makes a great weekend getaway, and I totally agree, wish we could have hung out longer.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon LA 2012

Well, I did it! My first race of the season, done son! Despite having been under the weather, I was able to complete it! I ran with my friend Chris and even with it being balls hot again (though a lil cooler than last year), we made it through! Aaaannnnndddd, without music, not counting the bands on the course, which is HUGE for me. I even beat my crap time last year by about 3 minutes! Still WAY slower than I would like, but I’ll take it!

Oh! I actually ran in costume this year, amazing for this snail! ;p on to the more oring stuff, the expo seemed smaller this year, if I’m not mistaken. I went hoping to find a couple of things, but no. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ The only booth I’m sad I didn’t browse was Moving Comfort, I’ve been stalking them online for a while now and need to go ahead and take the plunge. At last, I was with the BF and my guy friend, so I didn’t really feel like stopping at the unmentionables booth, lol.

Overall, this year was WAY better for me than last. I started to get hot and drained at mile 10, last year happened much earlier. I’ve said it before, heat and I, DO NOT get along WELL! Still, I had enough energy to pick up the pace a little before the finish line, and after, I actually hung out to see the Dirty Heads, who I thought I was going to me because of my snail pace. I also got to enjoy half of my well earned beer! WAY better than last year, when I didn’t even hang around for the beer or anything else, was too pooped. All in all I had fun, I loved running in the tunnel and over the 6th St. Bridge (my two FAV parts), but the time of year, late Oct. in L.A. is sooo friggin hot and dry, the Santa Ana winds wreck me! I’m usually sick this time of year, sinus and allergy overload. The start time, should be earlier than 7:30am or I need to drop 30 mins from my time (which I want to anyway, eventually).

Also, the race date really puts a damper in one’s Halloween partying, you can’t go out, paint the town and prep for a half marathon, I’d love it’d they held it the weekend before Halloween weekend, that would rock. Even with all this said, it was a blast out there running with the bands and other runners in costume, and as usual R’n’R’s medals and tech shirts ROCK! No complaints there, it started on time and the water station support was better than last year!! So will this race see me next year, idk??? It might! ๐Ÿ™‚

Aside

Had my last long run Saturday, 12.61 miles…discovered my shoes aren’t going to work, returned them, YIKES! Still not 100%, but better than I was…wish I could say that I felt prepared ๐Ÿ˜ฆ it could be worse though. I just … Continue reading
